What is Chhath puja?

This is a ancient Hindu festival it is dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhthi Maiya (known to be the sister of Lord Surya). This festival is mainly celebrated by north-eastern INDIANS.But nowadays this celebrated in all over the India but there are also mainly north Indians. There are some states from the people who celebrate this with joy who are mainly from Bihar, UP, Jharkhand and the country of nepal. According to now there are also few peole from another states who celebrate this from last one or two years. This is the only ancient and vedic festival that is dedicated to the Sun. Surya is known as the god of light that also means sign of truth, god of life source.

Why is the festival named 'chhath' ?

The Chhath stand for six in the Nepali and Hindi language and as this festival is celebrated on the sixth day of Hindi month named 'Karthika' as the festvial named as the same.



Reason of celebrating Chhath Puja:-

There are mant stories available that to the origin of Chhath Puja. But most of people think that, in the ancient times Chhath Puja was created by Draupadi and Pandwas in Hastinapur to sole their problems and regain their lost kingdom, that they lost in dice game by Kaurawas. All things are taken from Rig Veda. In Rig Veda texts are chanted while worshipping the Sun. Also said that it was started by Surya putra Karna who ruled over Anqa desh (Bhagalpur , bihar).



Rituals for Chhath Puja ?

Chhathi Maiya, commomly known as usna is the goddess worshipped in this Puja. This Festival involes various rituals, which are considered as much taugher thqan other any hindu festivals. In this process there are very strict rule of fasting one who is on fast cant even drink one drop of Water till fasting is over. They usually take dips in water boddies near by Chhath Ghat (where they celebrate this festival, where statue of Chhathi Maiiya are Made) or they dipped in near by river for some time Facing the sun and offering Prashad to sun till Sunset and Sunrise.



 Nahay Khay:-

On the first day of Festivals or you can say Puja, the devotees have to take a dip in near by water boddies and after they have to cook proper meal for themselves. The common preparation are Kaddi chawal and Channa dal is famous things that cooked this day. The ladies having fast can allow to have one meal on this day.



Lohanda and Kharna:-

On the second day, the devoteed are to observe fast for the whole day with the strict rule which they can break after the sunset by offering Surya Prashad. The parvatins cook the whole prasad on thier own which include kheer and chapatis and they break the strict fast with this prasad.

Sandhya Aradhya:-

In this day the devotees are half dipped in water during sunset and do some Puja and After half an hour some devotees go home and came early morning for Dipped Again in Water And some of Other devotees Stay full Night at the Chhath Ghat till the Sunrise.

Food During Chhath puja:

There are various types of tasty food which are made by ladies in the Chhath Puja. Like thekua, litti, Puaaa, Puri  etc
